Canucks Send Seven to Utica

Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Michael D. Gillis announced today that the Canucks have reduced their pre-season roster by seven players.
The following players have been assigned to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League:
Peter Andersson Defense
The 22 year old Sweden native is coming off of his first season in North America, where he played in 42 games with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. The defenseman scored his first career AHL goal on Dec. 12 against Hamilton. Andersson’s North American career followed up on his four professional seasons in Sweden, where he captured an Allsvenskan championship with Orebro HK in 2011-12.
Darren Archibald Left Wing
Archibald, 23, split the 2012-13 season with the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves and the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings. In 55 AHL games he registered 22 points (12-10-22). In 18 ECHL games, the 6’3” 212 lb. forward netted six goals and seven assists. In 75 career AHL games, the Newmarket, Ontario native has registered 23 points (13-10-23).
Alex Biega Defense
Biega, 25, spent the 2012-13 season with the AHL Rochester Americans, collecting 25 points (5-20-25) in 72 regular season games and adding two assists in three playoff games. The Montreal, QC, native spent four years with Harvard where he compiled 70 points (15-55-70) in 131 games. While with Harvard, he was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team (2006.07), All-Ivy League First All-Star Team (2008.09) and ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team (2008.09). The 5’10”, 191 lbs. defenseman was originally selected by Buffalo 147th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Joacim Eriksson Goalie
Eriksson comes to Utica for his first season of hockey in North America fresh off of a Swedish Elite League championship season with Skelleftea in Sweden. The 23 year old was second in the SEL with a 1.67 GAA in last year’s regular season, and led all goaltenders with a 1.06 GAA and finished second with a .952 save percentage in the SEL playoffs. The 6-foot-2 goalie was drafted 196th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Alexandre Mallet Center
After splitting last season between Chicago and Kalamazoo, Mallet has now joined the Comets for his second professional season. Mallet recorded his first career AHL point with an assist against San Antonio on Feb. 17. The 21 year old was a second round pick (57th overall) of the Canucks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft following his 81-point campaign in his final QMJHL season with Rimouski Oceanic.
Adam Polasek Defense
Now entering his third season in the AHL, Polasek had 16 total points split between Chicago and Kalamazoo last year. The 6-foot-3 native of the Czech Republic is a career +16 in the AHL. Polasek also netted five points (2-3-5) in six games while representing his country at the 2009 Under 18 World Championships.
Henrik Tommernes Defense
Tommernes now enters his first AHL season in Utica. The 23-year-old defenseman scored 37 career points in the SEL over five seasons. Tommernes also had two assists for Vancouver in a Sept. 17 preseason win over the San Jose Sharks. Tommernes was drafted in the seventh round by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
