Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has recalled defenceman Alex Biega from his conditioning assignment with the AHL Utica Comets. Alex Grenier has been reassigned to Utica.

Biega, 28, has appeared in one game for the Canucks (0-0-0) and in one game for the Comets (0-0-0) this season. In 2015.16, he registered seven assists and 22 penalty minutes in 51 games with Vancouver and six points (1-5-6) and eight penalty minutes in 14 games with Utica. The 5-10, 193-pound defenceman made his debut with the Canucks during the 2014.15 season, appearing in seven games and notching a game-winning goal.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Biega was selected by Buffalo in the fifth round, 147th overall, at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He originally signed with Vancouver as free agent on July 5, 2013 and signed a two-year contract extension on February 2, 2016.

Grenier, 25, has played 16 games in Utica this season, recording 14 points (6-8-14) and 19 penalty minutes. He shares the team lead in points for the Comets in 2015.16.
