May 3, 2017

Utica, NY - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has re-signed defenseman Andrey Pedan to a one-year, two-way contract.

“Andrey had a good season in Utica and we’re pleased to re-sign him,” said Benning. “He adds depth to our defense and his speed, size and physicality gives our coaching staff more options to compete every night.”

Pedan, 23, appeared in 52 games with Utica last season recording five goals, five assists (5-5-10) and 100 penalty minutes. Among Comets defensemen, Pedan ranked third in goals, fourth in shots (107) and tied for fifth in points. The 6-5, 218-pound defenseman made his NHL debut with the Canucks in 2015-16 playing 13 games and recording 18 penalty minutes. He also split the season in Utica appearing in 45 games and registering career-highs in goals (7), assists (14) and points (21).

Pedan was acquired from the New York Islanders in exchange for Alexandre Mallet and a 2016 third-round selection on November 25, 2014. He was originally selected by the New York Islanders, 63rd overall, at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
