UTICA HEADS TO SYRACUSE FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT MEETING

COMETS FINISH FIVE GAME SET AGAINST THE CRUNCH

Tonight's Game: Tonight’s game against the Syracuse Crunch marks the last time this season these two teams will meet. In the 13 games this season, the Comets are 6-7 against the Crunch . The last time they faced off at the Adirondack Bank Center, the Comets won a 5-4 overtime game with defenseman Jett Woo scoring the winner in the extra session. On that night, three Comets defenseman scored goals including Josh Wesley and Tyler Tucker.

Last Game: The Comets were defeated on Saturday night at the Upstate University Medical Arena by a 4-2 score. Hugh McGing and Lukas Jasek were the Comets goal scorers on that evening but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Crunch goals by Devante Stephens, Peter Abbandonato, Henry Bowlby and Cal Foote. Comets goalie Joel Hofer took the loss that evening against Spencer Martin. Both teams registered a power-play goal but the Comets had six opportunities to the Crunch’s two chances. At the conclusion of the game, the Comets dropped six of seven games on the road in Syracuse during the 2020-21 season.

Lockwood Recalled: On Sunday afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they have recalled rookie forward Will Lockwood. Lockwood, drafted by Vancouver in the third round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, played 24 games for the Utica Comets this season totaling four goals and seven assists for 11 points which ranks him second on the team amongst rookies. He is also tied for a team best +6 rating.  Lockwood spent four seasons at the University of Michigan before starting his professional career in Utica.

 

Jasek Remains Consistent: Second in team scoring, forward Lukas Jasek tallied 21 points (4G ,17A) thus far in the 24 games for the team this season. On Saturday night, Jasek scored one of the Comets’ only two goals against Syracuse along with Hugh McGing. Jasek is one of the most formidable players against Syracuse this season playing in 13 games while scoring two goals and 10 assists for 12 points on the year. Those 12 points lead the team against their division rival, two points ahead of the team’s leading scorer Sam Anas who has one goal and nine points in 11 games played against Syracuse.

Happy to be Home: The Comets remain one of the most dominant teams while inside the confines of the Adirondack Bank Center with a record of 9-2. While the road hasn’t been as friendly to Utica holding a 4-8-0-1 record this season. The good news for the Comets is that two of the last four games take place at home including tonight against the Crunch.
