COMETS SCORE FOUR UNANSWERED GOALS IN 5-2 WIN OVER SPRINGFIELD

Utica, N.Y. – Jonathan Dahlen scored twice as the Comets scored four unanswered goals to topple the Springfield Thunderbirds 5-2 Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Carter Bancks, Jesse Graham, and Tanner Kero also scored for Utica and Thatcher Demko made 23 saves to pick up the win.

Springfield struck four minutes into the game with a power play goal from Jayce Hawryluk, who tipped a shot past Demko. The Comets pulled even with a power play goal of their own courtesy of Dahlen, potting a rebound with 1:33 remaining in the first period. Jesse Graham and Evan McEneny tallied the assists.

Sebastian Repo put Springfield back on top halfway through the second period, following up on a rebound after Demko stopped Hawryluk on a breakaway. Dahlen evened the game again five minutes later with a wrist shot from the slot. Brendan Gaunce collected the assist the assist. Graham’s blast from the point gave the Comets their first lead of the night with 1:05 remaining in the period. Tanner Kero picked up the assist as the home team took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

Bancks pushed the lead to 4-2 one minute into the third, tapping a puck that leaked through the pads of Samuel Montembeault. Dylan Blujus and Jonah Gadjovich registered the assists. Tanner Kero kept the run alive, tipping a pass from Darren Archibald past Montembeault to give the Comets a 5-2 lead. Jaime Sifers also notched an assist. The Comets shut down the Thunderbirds in the final 14 minutes to secure the victory.

The Comets go right back at it tomorrow with a road game against the Binghamton Devils. Puck drop at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena is at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL TV.
