Comets Sign Derek Hulak

Utica Comets Director of Hockey Operations Pat Conacher announced today that the club has signed forward Derek Hulak to an American Hockey League contract for the 2016-17 season. Hulak was a member of the 2014 Texas Stars Calder Cup championship team and joins Michael Chaput (2016 - Lake Erie Monsters), and Chad Billins (2013 - Grand Rapids Griffins) in the Canucks family as former champions. Chaput and Billins were signed to two-way contracts by the Canucks on July 1st.
Hulak, 26, posted 40 point seasons in his first two AHL campaigns. Last season, the Saskatoon, SK native posted 17 goals, and 23 assists to go with a +15 rating. During the 2014-15 season, Hulak tied for third amongst AHL rookies with 21 goals and tied for ninth in rookie scoring with 44 points in 68 games. The 6-foot, 185-pound left winger scored his first career AHL goal on his first career shot in his first game on Mar. 1, 2014.
Prior to his time with Texas, Hulak tallied 123 career points (34-89-123) in 87 games from 2010-14 for the University of Saskatchewan. He recorded 242 career points (95-147-242) in 267 career games from 2005-10 between the Western Hockey League’s Regina Pats and Saskatoon Blades.
