FRIDAY NIGHTS ARE BACK AS COMETS HOST PROVIDENCE
Oct 22, 2021Home Opener Success: Last week’s home opener for the Comets resulted in a victory after the team defeated the Rochester Americans by a 6-2 score on the strength of two goals by New Jersey Devils first-round draft pick, Alexander Holtz. Rookie goaltender, Nico Daws, made 25 saves on 27 shots to secure the win and while the Comets tallied one powerplay goal on three opportunities and held Rochester without a man-advantage tally on their five chances.
The Providence Bruins: The top AHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins makes their way into the Adirondack Bank Center for the first time this season as they battle the Comets at 7:00 PM. With the Bruins record resting at 1-1 having won their first game of the season against the Bridgeport Islanders at home but lost the following day on the road against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Bruins are currently led in scoring by centerman Jack Studnicka who has one goal and one assist in two games played and Jakub Lauko who tallied two assists so far. This season marks the first year for head Coach Ryan Mougenel who takes over for departing Jay Leach. Mougenel spent three seasons as Providence’s assistant coach.
On the Road to Syracuse: The Comets’ first road game of the season will find them in a familiar arena as they head to the Upstate Medical University Arena on Saturday night to battle the top affiliate of the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion, Tampa Bay Lightning. The game on Saturday will be the first home game of the season for the Crunch who have played three games on the road to start the season. Their season opener took place in Cleveland where they defeated the Monsters by a 6-4 score. Saturday’s game will make the first of 12 games between the two I-90 rivals of the North Divisions of the AHL’s Eastern Conference.
Multiple Point Night for Many: Five players from the Utica Comets skated away with a multi-point night after the team’s home opener on Sunday afternoon. Reilly Walsh currently leads the team heading into the weekend with three assists while Holtz (2G), Bryan Flynn (1G, 1A), Tyce Thompson (2A), and Fabian Zetterlund (2A) also had multi-point outburst during the home opener.
