CANUCKS SELECT NINE PLAYERS AT 2019 DRAFT

Vancouver, BC - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced that the Canucks selected right wing Vasily Podkolzin 10th overall, left wing Nils Hoglander 40th overall, left wing Ethan Keppen 122nd overall, center Carson Focht 133rd overall, goalie Arturs Silovs 156th overall, right wing Karel Plasek 175th overall, right wing Jack Malone 180th overall, left wing Aidan Mcdonough 195th overall and center Arvid Costmar 215th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

 

The Canucks also made three trades. JT Miller was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Marek Mazanec, a 2019 third round pick and a 2020 conditional pick. The Canucks also acquired forward Francis Perron and a 2019 7th round pick from San Jose in exchange for forward Tom Pyatt and a 2019 6th round pick. The Canucks acquired the 122nd and 175th overall picks from Buffalo in exchange for the 102nd overall pick.

 

Podkolzin, 17, finished the season playing for Neva St. Petersburg in Russia's second league, recording five points (2-3-5) in 14 games played. He captained Team Russia to a bronze medal at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup notching 11 points (8-3-11) in five games, leading the tournament in goals. He also wore the 'C' at the 2019 Under-18 World Championship, posting four points (1-3-4) in seven games to help Russia earn a silver medal.

 

Hoglander, 18, accumulated 14 points (7-7-14) and 22 penalty minutes in 50 games for Rogle BK (SHL) in 2018.19. One year prior, the Bocktrask, Sweden native won a bronze medal at the U18s.

 

Keppen, 18, appeared in 68 games in 2018.19 for the Flint Firebirds (OHL) and tallied 59 points (30-29-59) and 67 penalty minutes. The Whitby, Ontario native won gold with Team Canada at the U17-Dev.

 

Focht, 19, collected 64 points (26-38-64) in 68 games for the Calgary Hitmen (WHL) last season.

 

Silovs, 18, split the season between HK Riga and HS Riga. He posted a 2.45 goals against average with HK Riga and 3.26 goals against average with HS Riga.

 

Plasek, 18, collected six points (2-4-6) in 29 games for Brno Kometa (Czech) in 2018.19. He added one assist in five playoff games.

 

Malone, 18, tallied 59 points (19-40-59) in 57 games in 2018.19 for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL).

 

Mcdonough, 19, played the 2018.19 season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He collected 42 points (21-21-42) in 50 regular season games and seven points (4-3-7) in six games.

 

Costmar, 17, played four games for Linkopings HC (SweHL) in 2018.19. He also appeared in 44 games for Linkoping HCJ20 (SuperElit) and recorded 38 points (13-25-38).
