CANUCKS SIGN MICHAEL LEIGHTON, RECALL ASHTON SAUTNER

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed goaltender Michael Leighton to a one-year, two-way contract. Leighton has been designated for assignment to the Utica Comets. Additionally, the Canucks have recalled defenseman Ashton Sautner.

 

Leighton, 37, has split the 2018-19 season with the Ontario Reign (.859 save percentage with 1-1-0 record in 3 GP) and Utica Comets (.915 save percentage with a 6-1-0 record in 7 GP). 

 

In the National Hockey League, Leighton has played 111 regular-season games with Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina. He reached the Stanley Cup Final with the Flyers in 2010, going 8-3 with three shutouts in 14 games that postseason.

 

Sautner, 24, has appeared in 31 games with the Comets this season, tallying eight points (3-5-8). He has also skated in five career NHL games with the Canucks, recording two assists.
