Comets Add AHL All-Star Defenseman

Utica Comets Director of Hockey Operations Pat Conacher has announced that the club has signed defenseman Danny Syvret and forward Cam Reid to professional tryout contracts (PTO).

Syvret, 30, joins the Comets with 10 seasons of professional hockey experience that includes over 600 American Hockey League games, and 59 games in the National Hockey League. In his AHL career, the defenseman has racked up 323 points (61-262) in 634 games. Syrvret split last season with the Iowa Wild, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL. He recorded 18 points (4-14-18) and 24 penalty minutes in 58 games with Iowa, before he played in 17 games and recorded 5 points (2-3-5) with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

He was named to the First-Team AHL All-Star squad and also selected to the AHL All-Star Classic during the 2008-09 season, in which he posted 57 points (12G-45A) in 76 contests for the Philadelphia Phantoms.

The Millgrove, Ontario native was drafted in the third round (81st overall), by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2005 NHL Entry Level Draft.

Reid, 24, joins the Comets after appearing in one AHL game, with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and 22 ECHL games with the Reading Royals. With Reading, the forward recorded 19 points (7-12-19), and 12 penalty minutes. In his career, Reid has collected 26 points (6-22-26) in 83 AHL games as a member of the Peoria Rivermen, the Milwaukee Admirals, the Lake Erie Monsters, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Adirondack Flames, and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The Delta, BC native was drafted in the seventh round (192nd overall), by the Nashville Predators in the 2009 NHL Entry Level Draft.
