COMETS ANNOUNCE DETAILS OF THIRD ANNUAL SAVE OF THE DAY FOUNDATION NIGHT
Jan 10, 2019Utica Comets President Robert Esche announced today that the annual Save of the Day Foundation Night will encompass a week’s worth of games this year, including games on January 16, 18, and 19. The Comets will wear their ever-popular black and neon green jerseys for all three games, with a $20 raffle culminating on Saturday night where all game worn jerseys will be raffled off to a number of lucky fans. You do not have to be present at Saturday’s game in order to win.
Save of the Day Foundation week aims to raise both awareness and funds for the Foundation, which recently celebrated its 15th year in existence. In its first year back in 2016, the night raised over $72,000, a number that rose to over $94,000 in 2017.
Beginning during the Comets game on Friday, January 11, fans will be able to purchase raffle tickets for $20 at a table in the concourse. Ticket sales kick off this Friday and will conclude on Saturday night, or when all tickets have been purchased. There are 3,925 raffle tickets that will be sold – totaling the exact number of seats at the Adirondack Bank Center. Cash, credit cards, and checks are all accepted. If you are not able to make it to the Adirondack Bank Center to purchase tickets, players from the Utica Jr. Comets Organization have volunteered to sell tickets throughout the week to friends and family.
Additionally, beginning on January 16, the 50/50 will carry over for three games, concluding on Saturday, January 19, with the chance to generate a pot of over $20,000. The Comets will also offer some limited edition Save of the Day week apparel in the team store.
The Save of the Day Foundation was formed in 2003 by Esche while playing in the NHL, with the initial goal of helping children with life threatening illnesses in the Mohawk Valley. More recently, the Foundation expanded its parameters to include all local 501(c)3 organizations in need. For the past 15 years, the Foundation has evolved and morphed into a pillar of giving in the Mohawk Valley, raising over $2 million dollars since inception. Since the partnership with the Comets began in 2013, the Foundation has primarily focused on initiatives including youth health & wellness, local military & law enforcement, and education while continuing to partner with youth hockey organizations to grow the grassroots of the sport.
