COMETS COME UP SHORT IN BELLEVILLE

Nov 30, 2018

Belleville, ON – The Utica Comets earned goals from Tanner Kero and Tony Cameranesi, but the timely attack of the Belleville Senators toppled the Comets by a 4-2 margin on Friday night at CAA Arena.

After a scoreless first ten minutes, the Senators broke the stalemate and registered what would be the only tally of the first period. After Thatcher Demko made a series of stops, a loose puck floated to the side of the goal where Adam Tambellini swatted it out of the air and into the net.

The Comets plugged away at the goaltending of Belleville and, late in the second period, were able to register an equalizer. After Zack MacEwen’s long shot was kicked away by Marcus Hogberg, the rebound was chased by Kero, who found the goal from a tight angle. Just over two minutes later, Utica took the lead after Cameranesi crashed the net and followed up a play that was created by a dazzling move from Michael Carcone. Cameranesi’s first of the year sent the Comets into the second intermission gripping a one-goal lead.

The Comets lead lasted until the 6:08 mark of the third period, where the Senators tied the game on Logan Brown’s back-post goal. Belleville eventually overtook the lead just 3:31 later on Jordan Murray’s wrist shot from the left circle.

With time winding down and Demko on the bench for the extra attacker, the Senators capped off the game with an empty-netter from Filip Chlapik.

The Comets are back at it tomorrow afternoon against the Laval Rocket. Puck drop at Place Bell is at 3 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL TV.
