COMETS CONTINUE ROAD TRIP IN PROVIDENCE

Tonight’s Game: The Utica Comets take on the Providence Bruins. Puck drop is at 3:05 p.m.

 

Last Game: Marek Mazanec made 21 saves against his former team and led the Utica Comets to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday night at XL Center. Jonah Gadjovich, Tom Pyatt, Cam Darcy, and Zack MacEwen scored for Utica.

 

Head-to-Head: This is the second of two meetings between the Comets and Bruins this season. The Comets won the lone matchup 5-2 back on December 12. Utica is 3-0-2-0 in the last five seasons at Providence.

 

Scouting the Bruins: Providence comes in with a record of 36-25-8-3 and sits in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. Most recently, the Bruins fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 last night. Paul Carey leads the offense with 57 points, followed by Jordan Szwarz with 42 points. Zane McIntyre is the top goaltender with a record of 24-12-7, a 2.51 goals-against average, and a .900 save percentage.

 

Back With A Vengeance: Jonah Gadjovich has played well since returning to the lineup. Gadjovich two points (1-1-2) in two games since returning from injury. The rookie forward has nine points (3-6-9) in 39 games this year.

 

On The Verge: Reid Boucher is closing in on another Comets record. Boucher is four points back of tying the Comets’ single season point record held by Pascal Pelletier (62). Boucher has 58 points (28-30-58) in 53 games this year.

 

Cam Do: Cam Darcy’s big year continues. Darcy has already set a career high in goals and is closing in on career highs in assists and points. He needs six assists to tie his career best of 18 and two points to match his career high of 24. The forward has 22 points (10-12-22) in 64 games this season.

 

Three’s Company: It’s been a good year for the Comets big guns. With a goal and an assist last night, Zack MacEwen became the third Comets play to reach the 50-point mark this season, joining Reid Boucher (58) and Tanner Kero (54). These three also make up the three 20-goal scorers for the Comets. It is the first time the team has ever had more than one. MacEwen is also the fifth player in team history to reach the 50-point plateau. The second-year forward has 21 goals and 29 assists in 65 games this season.
