Sep 28, 2018

The Utica Comets begin a preseason doubleheader with the Binghamton Devils tonight at 7 p.m. at the Adirondack Bank Center.

The Comets finished last season with 88 points and a record of 38-26-8-4, good for fourth place in the North Division. Utica bowed out in the first round after pushing the eventual champion Toronto Marlies to five games in the best-of-five series. Binghamton ended the 2017-18 campaign with a 25-38-9-4, good for 63 points and fifth place in the North Division.

Utica won last year’s season series, going 6-2-0 against the Devils despite being outscored 20-19 overall in eight games.

COMETS PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Guillaume Brisebois– The second-year defenseman will look to build on a strong rookie season, tallying 18 points (3-15-18) in 68 games. Look for Brisebois to play big minutes along with expanded role on special teams as well.

Jonathan Dahlen– After helping Timra IK earn a promotion from Allsvenskan to the SHL, Dahlen made the leap to North America playing in two games with the Comets at the end of last season, tallying a goal and an assist. He also registered one assist in four playoff games.

DEVILS PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Colby Sissons– The rookie defenseman amassed 71 points (13-58-71) with Swift Current of the WHL last season and will get his first taste of pro action after New Jersey signed him to an entry-level contract this summer.

Nick Lappin – Lappin was a Comet killer last season, netting five points in six games against Utica and finished the year with 53 points in 65 games.
