Tonight’s Game: The Comets, coming off back-to-back wins, enter Blue Cross Arena in Rochester with a 3-1 record. The season opener, against Rochester, ended in a 3-2 victory with Kole Lind leading the way offensively potting two goals including the game winner on the powerplay in the third period. Back on February 5, Utica outshot the Amerks 34 to 29 with Jon Gillies making 27 saves in the winning effort.

Last Game: In their first home game of the year, the Comets defeated the Syracuse Crunch 5-2 on the strength of two Jonah Gadjovich goals and 17 saves by goaltender Jon Gillies. Rookies Tyler Tucker, Will Lockwood and Hugh McGing all tallied their first professional points tonight. Steve Santini, Nathan Walker and Dakota Joshua all scored their first goals as Comets.

For the Amerks, their last game took place 6 days ago on February 12 as they visited Cleveland and soundled defeated the Monsters by a 7-3 score. CJ Smith and Jean Sebastien Dea both registered two goals while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 43 saves en route to the win.

Head-to-Head: Tonight’s game against Rochester is the second of the year for the Comets. They opened the 2020-21 season with a 3-2 victory with two goals from Kole Lind including a third period power play game winner.

Scouting the Americans:  For the season opener, the Amerks only dressed 17 skaters due to injuries and call-ups with their parent team the Buffalo Sabres. Now fully healthy, Rochester has more than enough players to ice a team. Since their initial loss to the Comets, the Amerks won their next two games including an overtime victory on the road against Syracuse back on February 10 at home when Steve Fogerty scored in the extra period at 1:39 to give Rochester the 4-3 win.

Gadjovich Nets Two at Home:  Jonah Gadjovich now has scored three goals in four games including netting two goals last night against Syracuse. In the first period, Gadjovich deflected a Will Lockwood shot into the net and followed up that goal with an empty netter in the third period to seal the victory for the Comets. Gadjovich scored his first goal of the season during the home opener against Rochester back on February 5.

Next Game: The Comets will have time off before their game subsequent to the short trip to Rochester when they make their way back inside the Adirondack Bank Center on Friday February 26 for a rematch against the Americans.
