Comets Join Jr. Comets for Holiday Skate

The Jr. Comets organization strives to deliver unique experiences for its young members. These experiences include utilizing the AHL Comets facilities at the AUD as well as being paired with an AHL player to mentor the youth players. Another one-of-a-kind experience that the Jr. Comets organization provides is a holiday skate. Two days after Christmas, the Jr. Comets youth hockey players were able to capitalize a break from school and have some fun on the ice. The Jr. Comets players, however, weren’t the only skaters that jumped on the Utica Memorial Auditoriums ice that afternoon. They were also joined by the Utica Comet players, who put on their skates and took part in the holiday skate.

Enjoying a couple of days off, many Comet players traveled home to celebrate Christmas with their families. Two days after Christmas, they too were back on the Auditorium ice for practice, preparing for their game the following day against the St. John’s IceCaps. After practice concluded, the players were happy to spend a little time on the ice with the youth hockey kids. They skated around with the young players while stopping to take pictures and sign autographs.

“It was great, I thought it was a fantastic turnout,” said Comets defenseman Colby Robak. “I know teams do skates where all the fans have the chance to come out and skate, but this is unique to have just the youth hockey kids out there.”
