COMETS LOOK TO RIDE WAVE OF MOMENTUM INTO MATCHUP WITH HARTFORD

Tonight’s Game: The Utica Comets do battle with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

Last Game: The Utica Comets defeated the Belleville Senators by a score of 7-1 Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Reid Boucher broke the scoreless tie with a one-time blast on the power play two and a half minutes into the middle frame. Philip Holm made it 2-0 just two minutes later with a rip from the point. Michael Chaput extended his point streak with a power play goal of his own two minutes later. LaBate and Subban collected the assists. The route continued when Ashton Sautner potted his first of the year to bring the score to 4-0 Utica. Jayson Megna scored a breakaway goal just 40 seconds into the final period to make the score 5-0. Gabriel Gagne ended Demko’s shutout bid with a power play goal three and a half minutes into the third period. Boucher netted his second of the night halfway through the period with assists from Guillaume Brisebois and Darcy. Griffen Molino capped the game off with his first professional goal from Subban and Alexis D’Aoust. Thatcher Demko stopped 26 of 27 shots and his record improves to 5-3-1.

Head-to-Head: This is the first meeting between the Comets and Wolf Pack this season. Utica won the 2016-17 season series with a record of 3-1-0 and is 4-3-1 all-time versus Hartford.

Scouting the Wolf Pack: Hartford comes in with a record of 6-8-3 and are coming off a 4-2 loss to Rochester last night. Cole Schneider leads the offense with 13 points, followed by Joe Whitney with 12 points. Alexandar Georgiev is the top goalie with a 3-4-3 record, 3.02 goals-against average, and .905% save percentage.

Lucky 7: The Comets tied the franchise record for goals scored in a game with seven goals last night. It is the fifth time the Comets have scored seven goals in a game.

Staying Hot: Michael Chaput continues to rack up points, tallying a goal and an assist last night to bring his point streak to five games. The forward has tallied 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 13 games this year. 

First of Many: With a goal last night, Griffen Molino tallied his first professional goal. The rookie forward collected 58 points in 76 games as Western Michigan University.

Back on Track: The Comets’ power play righted the ship after going 3 for their last 39 by going 3-6 last night. Utica’s man advantage is fourth in the AHL at 22.4%.
