COMETS OVERPOWER MARLIES

Utica, N.Y. – The Utica Comets defeated the Toronto Marlies by a score of 5-2 Wednesday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.

Jayson Megna struck 36 seconds into the game to give Utica an early 1-0 lead. Carter Bancks tallied the assist. Dymtro Timashov tied the game three minutes later, burying a rebound past Thatcher Demko. Miro Aaltonen and Sam Jardine were credited with the assists. Holm regained the Comets lead with a power play goal at the 7:05 mark of the opening frame. Megna and Carter Bancks picked up the assists.

Ben Smith tied the game at two with 12:51 to go in the second period. Aaltonen collected the assist. Michael Carcone put the Comets back on top at the 18:20 mark of the middle frame, putting his own rebound past Calvin Pickard. Zack MacEwen earned the assist.

Alexis D’Aoust extended the lead to 4-2 with 6:06 remaining in regulation. Ashton Sautner and Carter Bancks picked up the assists.. Patrick Wiercioch made it 5-2 on the power play three minutes later. Dylan Blujus and D’Aoust collected the assists. The assist was Blujus’ first point as a Comet.

Demko finished with 32 saves and his record improves to 10-6-3. Pickard stopped 29 shots. His record falls to 9-4-0. The Comets power play went 2-4, while the penalty kill did not allow a goal in four attempts.
