COMETS SHUTOUT IN SYRACUSE

Mar 8, 2019

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Utica Comets created a multitude of chances, but they were eventually shutout in 4-0 fashion by the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at the War Memorial.

Needing less than a minute of action to generate the first goal, the Crunch earned a 1-0 lead after a steal allowed Ross Colton to distribute to Taylor Raddysh in front of the net for a one-touch finish. Syracuse doubled their lead midway through the period and while on a power play, as Alex Barre-Boulet punched a put-back effort into the goal following a Marek Mazanec save. The Comets outshot the Crunch in the opening 20 minutes of action, but they went into the intermission facing a 2-0 deficit.

The second period featured more back-and-forth action, but neither the Comets nor Crunch would capitalize on the opportunities. Mazanec made eleven stops during the period and Eddie Pasquale came up with eight of his own.

Utica continued to pepper Pasquale, but it was Alexander Volkov of Syracuse who struck next. Volkov’s backhand was turned aside, but the rebound fluttered into the net and gave the Crunch a 3-0 lead during the third period. Gabriel Dumont sealed the contest with an empty netter with under three minutes remaining, and the Comets fell in 4-0 fashion.

The Comets go right back at it tomorrow night against the Laval Rocket. Puck drop at Place Bell is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL TV.
