COMETS SUFFER SHUTOUT LOSS TO AMERICANS

Rochester, NY – The Utica Comets fell to the Rochester Americans by a score of 5-0 on Saturday night at the Blue Cross Arena.

3:59 into the game, Cole Schneider scored his 23rd of the year with a power play goal from Patrick Mullen and Tim Kennedy. Justin Bailey extended the lead on a breakaway goal after serving a penalty for his 21st of the year at 16:01. With 35 seconds left in the first frame, Derek Grant tallied a power play goal for his ninth of the year from Kennedy and Mullen. After a penalty-filled first period, the Americans led 3-0.

Justin Danforth scored his first AHL goal at 4:17 for the only goal of the second period. His shot from the low slot was assisted by Jean Dupuy and Alex Kile to give the Americans a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Brady Austin continued the attack with a wrist shot over the shoulder of Michael Garteig for his fourth of the year at 13:01 of the third period. Grant assisted on the final goal of the night.

Garteig stopped 21 shots as his record fell to 0-4-2. John Muse made 33 saves to improve his record to 3-8-0. The Comets were scoreless in six power play opportunities and killed five of seven penalties.
