COMETS FALL 2-1 SATURDAY NIGHT ON THE ROAD

COMETS TAKEN DOWN IN PROVIDENCE SATURDAY

Oct 22, 2022

Providence, RI – Coming off their first victory of the season, the Utica Comets travelled to Providence to battle the Bruins on Saturday night. The game remained close all night but the Bruins eventually prevailed on the strength of two quick strike goals in the middle frame as the Comets skated away with their second loss of the season by a 2-1 score.

Opening the scoring in the second period were the Bruins when Vinni Lettieri stole the puck on the right wing and drove the goal lifting it over the shoulder of Comets goalie Nico Daws and into the cage at 6:07. It only took 43 seconds later for the Bruins to add to the lead after a wrister by Samuel Asselin found daylight over the blocker of Daws at 6:50. This goal put Providence up 2-0 through forty minutes of play.

In the final period of regulation, the Comets finally got onto the board. Forward Andreas Johnsson sent the puck from the corner right to Brian Pinho who immediately found daylight behind Bruins goalie Kyle Keyser at 4:50. The game was 2-1 in favor of the Bruins after the Pinho tally. Despite a solid effort as the game’s final minutes ticked off the clock, the Comets couldn’t close the gap and skated off the ice with their second loss of the season.
