SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND FOR JR. COMETS

Oct 16, 2017

It was another positive weekend in the realm of Utica Jr. Comets hockey. Two teams picked up big wins and another took a giant leap in the right direction.

In the Jr. Comets game of the week, the 2003 team faced off against the Springfield Rifles. The Jr. Comets fell 2-0, but Director of the Jr. Comets Bill Horton felt it was one of the best games his team played all season. “It was tough to come out with the loss, but I was still very happy with how we played. We had a short bench, but our guys battled hard. I’m glad to see the progress of this team since the Toronto tournament earlier this year.”

The 2004 Jr. Comets swept the #10 New York State ranked Westchester Vipers 8-1 and 5-1. Comets player of the week Shane Melead lead a spread out scoring attack with three goals in two games. Head coach Adam Pawlick was pleased with his team’s performance, “I’m happy with our success. I challenged the team to play a full six periods and I think we did. We used a lot of practice points from the week in both games as well, which is great to see.”

The 2004 squad wasn’t the only team who had a weekend sweep. The 2006 Jr. Comets took down the Buffalo Saints by 6-1 and 5-1 margins. Horton liked what he saw from the young team. “I was happy with the way they played. I’m proud of how well they represented the organization in Western New York.”

The 03’s are off this weekend, while the 2004 squad takes on the CP Dynamo in a doubleheader Saturday, and the 2006 team hits the road for a doubleheader Sunday against the Wheatfield Blades.
