Feb 27, 2019

Utica, N.Y. – The Comets surrendered a pair of third period goals in a 3-1 loss to the Rochester Americans Wednesday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Reid Boucher scored the lone Comets goal, tying the Comets team record for most goals in a single season. Michael Leighton made 29 saves in the loss.

The North Division rivals played at a feverish pace to start the game, but neither team could find the net in the opening period.

C.J. Smith scored on the power play 55 seconds into the second period on a redirected shot. Boucher tied the game with a power play goal with 3:22 to go in the second, beating Amerks goalie Scott Wedgewood with a dart from the right circle. Evan McEneny and Zack MacEwen tallied the assists.

Victor Olofsson put Rochester back on top 21 seconds into the third period. Remi Elie extended the lead to 3-1 six minutes later. The Comets threw everything they had in an effort to tie the game but were stonewalled by Wedgewood.

The Comets are back in action Friday night against the Hershey Bears. Puck drop at the Adirondack Bank Center is at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to use the ticket exchange site, StubHub!. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL TV.
