Chatting with Comets' Forward, Zach Gallant

Aug 17, 2026

Utica, NY – In early July, the Utica Comets signed Zach Gallant to an AHL contract and this past week, the left-shot forward was the latest guest in the Comets’ Summer FaceTime Series.

Born in London, Ontario and raised 35 minutes outside of Toronto in the town of Oakville, Gallant has spent a large part of his hockey career north of the border. The 27-year-old has been a part of solely US-based teams, however, his entire pro career, most recently a member of the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Zach is back in Oakville for the summer, spending time with his parents and two younger sisters. During our FaceTime, he mentioned he was excited about his upcoming trip to Michigan to attend a Morgan Wallen concert but planned to stay local for most of the summer with a focus on working out and skating.

Gallant spent the entirety of his junior hockey career less than two hours from home in Peterborough, Ontario with the Petes organization. During 2018-19 campaign, his fourth season in Peterborough, Gallant made his professional debut after earning a nod from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, recording four points (1g, 3a) over a four-game stretch.

While he made his professional debut in the ECHL, Gallant has been an AHL player for the bulk of his career. After his final season with the Petes, he would spend two full seasons with the San Jose Barracuda (AHL), where he registered 18 points (4g, 14a) in 78 total games. After his two years on the West Coast, he headed back to Canada to attend McGill, a prestigious university in Montreal. “I wasn’t crazy about where my game was at that time, so I thought I’d take a step back and look at things from a different perspective by going back to school. I did a couple years there and it was fun living downtown (Montreal). I wasn’t ready to pack it in after my time there and was pumped to get the opportunity to play in the AHL again”, Gallant commented.

After a successful two seasons at McGill, where he racked up 56 points (20g, 36a) in 50 combined games, Gallant was picked up by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. When asked about his time in Pennsylvania, he responded, “It was top notch; we were taken care of very well. We brought in some great players, and I got a lot better on the ice, so I really enjoyed my time there.” Gallant added that he feels grateful and is excited about the opportunity to play in Utica this coming season.

While hockey is his main focus, Gallant mentioned that he enjoys golfing, hanging out with friends, and listening to classic rock. Some of his favorite bands include Bruce Springsteen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Eagles. Despite his love for classic rock, he admitted that country is his favorite genre to see live and expects the Morgan Wallen concert to be one of the best he’s attended yet.
